James Jehue “Hugh” Blevins, age 89 of Sparta formerly of Ashe County died on Thursday, December 13, 2018 at Ashe Memorial Hospital. Mr. Blevins was born in Crumpler, NC on September 22, 1929 to Carl and Ella Hudler Blevins. Mr. Blevins was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Sally Miller, and his wife, Ellena Blevins.

Following graduation he joined the United States Navy and served in the Mediterranean. He retired as Mechanic for Pepsi Cola in Virginia. He was an avid outdoors man who enjoyed fishing, deer and bear hunting.

Hugh always enjoyed talking to others and spending time with his family and friends. Mr. Blevins is survived by: Daughter, Shelia Marlow (Jerry) of Sparta, step daughter, Debbie Muller, sister, Doris Bennett of West Jefferson, brother in law, Dempsey Miller of Sanford, three grandchildren, Jill Cantwell (Tim) of Palm Beach, FL, Lucas Marlow (Rochelle) of Sparta, Jermey Marlow (Courtney) of Sparta, four great-grandchildren, Chandler Cantwell, Dillon Marlow, Kerrington Marlow, McKenzie Forsyth, special friend, Mary McIntyre, niece, Jenny Summey (Brett) of West Jefferson, three nephews, Gary Bennett (Linda) of West Jefferson, Jeff Bennett (Judy) of Kerrnersville, Zane Miller of Sanford, a number of great nieces, nephews, and cousins. Funeral services will be held on Monday, December 17, 2018 at 2:00 pm at Badger Funeral Home Chapel by Elder Danny Marlow.

Burial will follow in Healing Springs Baptist Church Cemetery with Military Rites. The family will receive friends from 1:00 pm until 2:00 pm Monday, December 17, 2018 at Badger Funeral Home. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to, Metrolina Association for the Blind, 704 Louise Avenue, Charlotte, NC 28204.
