OBITUARY James J. McCusker Jr. July 10, 1935 – July 7, 2018 Play Tribute Movie James J. McCusker Jr., of Plymouth, passed away surrounded by his loving family at the age of 82. He was the devoted husband of Joan A. (MacIsaac) McCusker. Jim was born in Cambridge on July 10, 1935 to the late James J. and Henrietta (Nemet).
He grew up in Dedham, MA and attended Norfolk Agricultural High School. After graduation, he heard the call of duty and entered the United States Army, serving his country honorably. After his return home, he and Joan raised their family in (Walpole/Norfolk area), and he began a position as a heavy equipment operator with the Local 4 Union, in which he worked for over 30 years.
He aided in the construction of many well-known projects in Massachusetts including the construction of the I495, Route 128, the Big Dig project, and clearing the land for the Massachusetts National Veteran’s Cemetery at Otis and Patriot’s Stadium. Jim and Joan retired to the Cape Cod area and enjoyed family and friends, Jim served as an Elder for Swift Memorial United Methodist Church. Jim is survived by his beloved wife of 62 years, Joan A. (MacIsaacs) McCusker, their 4 children James Douglas ‘Doug’ McCusker and wife Susan of Weymouth, Debra Lee (McCusker) Colella and husband Vincent of Lawndale, NC, Dennis Paul McCusker and wife Belinda of Youngsville NC, and Denise Marie McCusker of Bourne, MA.
Brother Richard McCusker and wife Joanne of West Virginia, Sister Betty (McCusker) Risely of Florida, William McCusker and Joanie Murphy. Grandfather to 11, Great-Grandfather to 7, as well as many nieces and nephews. Jim was preceded in death by his late siblings Margaret “Peggy” Giuliano and Jean Campbell.
Family and friends are invited to the Celebration of Life on Wednesday, July 18th at 10:00am to be held in the Swift Memorial Methodist Church located at 10 Williston Rd. in Sagamore Beach, MA 02562. Interment will be at 1:15pm at the Massachusetts National Veterans Cemetery at Otis.
In Lieu of flowers, donations in honor of Jim may be sent to the Swift Memorial Church Mission Fund. A collation will be following the service at Swift Memorial United Methodist Church.
