James J. Schlemer, age 84, of Edwardsville, Illinois died Saturday, May 4, 2019, at his home. James was a roll grinder operator in the Hot Strip at Granite City Steel where he worked from 1955-1992. Jim was born February 12, 1935 on Old Alton Road in Edwardsville the son of the late John & Mary (Tessaro) Schlemer.

He married Margaret Ann Elliott on June 25, 1955 at the Troy Methodist Church in Troy, Illinois. She died on July 25, 1986. He married Tammy Gibbons on November 3, 1984.

Other survivors include 3 sons, Mark Schlemer & wife Anita of Edwardsville, Ken “Wimpy” Schlemer & wife Sara of Williamson, & Todd Schlemer of Worden; 6 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; and 1 sister, Marlene Fagala & husband, John of Maryville. Jim was a graduate of Edwardsville High School in 1955 and a lifetime member of the Edwardsville Moose Lodge #1561. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, May 8, 2019, at Weber & Rodney Funeral Home.

A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, May 9, 2019, at Buck Road Cemetery in Glen Carbon. Memorials may be given to the Edwardsville Moose Lodge. To send flowers or a memorial gift to the family of James J. Schlemer please visit our Sympathy Store.
