Obituary for James “Jim” Allen Durey Print James “Jim” Allen Durey went to be with the Lord February 13, 2019, in Mandeville, LA at the age of 77. Jim was born on January 14, 1942 in Monticello, Arkansas. He is preceded in death by his parents: Fletcher Durey and Hazel Durey; 2 brothers: Alonzo and Travis.
He is survived by his brother Morris and his dear sister Betty. He is survived by his wife, Yurie Durey; his son Daniel, his daughter-in-law Andrea, grandson: Logan and two granddaughters: Miya and Alayna. Jim was an Air Force veteran who served 2 tours in Vietnam.
He married Yurie Miyamoto at Tachikawa AFB, Japan in 1969 after his return from Vietnam. Jim continued his military career retiring with 20 years of service. He then went on to his 2nd career working for the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development and retired with 20+ years.
Jim and Yurie were married for 49 years. Jim was an avid coin collector, stamp collector, enjoyed metal detecting, loved to read science fiction and had an extensive National Geographic collection. His greatest joy was visiting with his three grandchildren who he was able to see grow up from babies into their teenage years.
Graveside funeral services with military honors will be held at 2:00pm Sunday, February 17, 2019 at the Collins Cemetery with Rev. Tony Campagna officiating. The family would prefer in lieu of flowers please make donations if possible to the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) or the Wounded Warrior Project, PO Box 758517, Topeka, Kansas, 66675-8517.
