James “Jim” Anthony Ingram (aka Superman) of Winston-Salem, left this world for his place among the heavens on Saturday, May 25, 2019, at the age of 70. Born Aug. 23, 1948, in Mount Carmel, Indiana, he was the son of Milton Carl Ingram and Ellen Marie Furlow Ingram, both of whom preceded him in death.

Jim grew up in Ewing, Illinois, and spent his younger years working on his family’s farm. He later joined the U.S. Navy and proudly served for four years during the Vietnam War. He was a member of the Golden Warriors while in the Navy and served on the U.S.S. Roosevelt and the U.S.S. Ticonderoga.

After leaving the military, he worked for Delta Airlines, where he retired after 34 years of service. His time in the military and at Delta allowed him to travel all over the U.S. and the world. He also served as a volunteer firefighter at Talleys Crossing Fire Department for six years.

He was an avid fisherman, bowling champion and woodworker, who always lived life to its fullest. He and his wife, Lillie Mae Ingram, of the home, embodied what marriage meant by standing by each other’s side through sickness and health, and loving and cherishing each other every day. Jim was dedicated to all of his endeavors in life, but his greatest passion was his family, most especially his children and grandchildren.

He was always there to either offer advice or to do anything anyone needed without question. That was also true for his friends and everyone he met. He made everyone who knew him a better person and one would be hard pressed to ever know a better man, father, grandfather or friend.

Jim was always a fighter and would overcome any hurdles, which earned him the nickname “Superman” by many family members. He was our superhero. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Steve Ingram.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife; brothers Gary and Mark Ingram, of Ewing, Illinois, and Ken Moore, of Arkansas; sister Marian Nipper of Ewing, Illinois; daughters Deanna Nell Ingram and Misty Dawn Ingram-Oakley, both of Winston-Salem; stepchildren, Pattie Ann Wall and her husband Mike Gooch of Clemmons, N.C., Donna Kay Hiatt of Winston-Salem, Steven Gray Wall of Kernersville, N.C., Lisa Michelle Wall of Valdese, N.C.; grandchildren Elijah James Ingram of Winston-Salem, Ethan Hunter Oakley and his girlfriend Ashton Nicole Keith, both of Walkertown, Jason Dennis Wall Gallimore and his wife Tehane of Davidson, N.C., Jennifer Ann Gallimore and her man friend Craig James Michael Schultz, both of Clayton, N.C., Garth Mitchell Hiatt and his girlfriend Lily Miranda Pierce, both of Summerfield, N.C., and Annie Elizabeth Perdue, of Sophia, N.C.; great-granddaughter Sarah Lillie Mae Gallimore of Davison, N.C.; best friend Gary Gray of Winston-Salem, as well as a host of other friends.
