James “Jim” Michael Griffith James “Jim” Michael Griffith, age 72, of Mechanicsburg, passed away peacefully on Sunday morning, May 20, 2018 at Sarah Todd Memorial Home surrounded by his loving family. For the past six years, Jim had fought Alzheimer’s Disease with his typical good-natured personality and, of course, his smile. Jim was born in York, PA on April 10, 1946, the son of the late John Griffith and Camille (McHugh) Griffith.
In addition to his parents, Jim is preceded in death by his brothers: Gregory Griffith and Michael Griffith; his sister-in-law, Joy Griffith; and his brothers-in-law, Donald Crowder and Henry “Hank” White. Jim is survived by his wife of 47 years, Kathryn (Eichelberger) Griffith of Mechanicsburg; his three sons and their families: James Griffith and his wife, Karen, and their children, Jelena and Aedan; Andrew Griffith and his wife, Giovanna; Edward Griffith and his wife, Alysia; Jim’s six siblings: John “Jack” Griffith, Nancy Crowder, Jean Griffith, Mary Lou Bricker, and Elizabeth White; and many nieces and nephews. Jim was a 1964 graduate of Carlisle Area High School.
He then attended Penn State University, earning an Associate’s Degree in Engineering in 1966. Jim worked for many years in the field of precision crystal oscillators. In his later years, he served as a sales manager for several companies.
He was most proud of his time at Greenray Industries, traveling around the world to meet his customers face to face. Jim was fortunate enough to work on projects that ranged from the Apollo Space Program and GPS satellites to the Patriot Missile System. Jim always went out of his way to care for his coworkers and customers.
Jim was a loving and dedicated husband and father. He was proud of his Roman Catholic faith, and was a member of St Patrick Church in Carlisle, PA for many years and St Joseph Church in Mechanicsburg. He was known for his warm smile, positive attitude, and genuine interest in other’s wellbeing.
Jim was frequently seen working in the yard, doing home improvement projects, and camping. Jim spent his free time volunteering as a Scout Master and coaching YMCA soccer. All are welcome to join Jim’s family at his viewing on Thursday, May 24, 2018, from 9:45 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. and at his Mass of Christian Burial beginning at 11:00 a.m. with a reception to immediately follow the Mass, all at Saint Patrick Church, 85 Marsh Drive, Carlisle.
PA 17015; with the Very Reverend William C. Forrey, V.F. celebrating. Burial in St. Patrick Catholic Cemetery in Carlisle will follow the reception. The family sends their most heartfelt thanks to everyone at the Sarah A. Todd Memorial Home in Carlisle who so lovingly cared for Jim during his illness.
