James “June” Edgar Ford Jr., 92, of Sharples, WV passed away peacefully at St. Mary’s Hospital, Huntington, WV surrounded by the love and prayers of his family and pastor on May 7, 2019. June was born October 21, 1926 to the late Rev. James E. Ford Sr. and Willie B. Ford in Sharples, WV.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Annie B. Ford in 1998. Also preceding in June’s death were his sisters, Opehila Henry, Elizabeth Smoot, and Phyllis Nichols; and brother, Nathaniel Ford. June was loved by many and he never met a stranger.

He was a lover of God, cars, good times with family, fishing, good gospel music and church. He shared 92 years of stories and wisdom to anyone he contacted. June is survived by brothers, Rev.

Ernest (Arnette) Ford of Winston Salem, NC, and Joseph C. Ford of Detroit, MI; sisters, Sarah (Luther deceased) Price of Madison, WV and Bonnie (Arthur) Jackson of Detroit, MI. He is survived by ten loving children, Georgianna Leftwich of Wilmington, DE, James (Shirley) Leftwich of Pearland, TX, Robert (Bobbie) Leftwich of Southfield, MI, Sylvester (Evalene) Leftwich of St. Albans, WV, Marion Leftwich of Sharples, WV, Willie (Marsha) Leftwich of Madison, WV, Emma (Gerald deceased) Anthony of Sharples, WV, Teresa (Temious) Allen of Wilmington, DE, James (Ernestine) Ford III of Orlando, FL, and Lewis (Becky) Ford of Foster, WV. Also surviving are a team of 21 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, and seven great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.

He will be missed by many and never forgotten. We would like to thank his home health aides, physical therapist, Boone Memorial Hospital, Cabell Huntington Hospital, and St. Mary’s Hospital for treating June with respect and dignity in his final stages of life. Service will be 3 p.m. Saturday, May 11 at Handley Funeral Home in Danville, WV with Audie Murphy Sr. officiating.
