James L. Fay, 83 of Carroll, died Friday, March 1, 2019 at Regency Park Nursing Home in Carroll. Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, March 7, 2019 at St. John Paul II Parish – St. Lawrence Church in Carroll. The Celebrant will be Fr.

Timothy Schott. Music will be by Kate Cuddy and the St. Lawrence Choir. Lector for the funeral mass will be Dan Petersen.

Gift Bearers will be Jim’s granddaughters: Nicole Crawford, Bailey Fay, Tessa Fay, Emma Fay, Claire Kasperbauer, Mya Crawford, and Emily Eichelberger. Eucharistic Ministers will be Jean Knobbe, Diane Hannasch, and Lou Pottebaum. Casket Bearers will be Jim’s grandsons: Dan Petersen, Michael Petersen, John Streit, Jake Fay, Drew Kasperbauer, Elliott Fay, Evan Fay, Colin Kasperbauer, Nick Streit, and Trey Crawford.

Burial will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Carroll. Friends may call at the Sharp Funeral Home after 5 p.m. on Wednesday where there will be a Christian Wake Service at 6:30 p.m. The casket will be moved to St. Lawrence Church on Thursday morning where additional visitation will be held from 9:30-10:15 a.m. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Sharp Funeral Home in Carroll and online condolences may be left for Jim’s family at www.

sharpfuneral.com. Born on August 29, 1935 at Carroll, Iowa, Jim was the son of Martin and Ernestine (Hall) Fay. While attending school, Jim began working for Hannasch Grocery in Carroll.

On September 17, 1956, he was united in marriage to Diane Rettenmaier at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Carroll. Jim and Diane made their home in Carroll where they raised their family. Jim spent nearly seventy years in the grocery business; first as a Meat Manager at B&H Super Valu in Carroll as well as Frohlich’s Super Valu in Coon Rapids.

Over these years he developed great relationships with his customers and the community. He enjoyed golfing, Saturday morning coffee at Frohlich’s and was an avid New York Yankees and Notre Dame Irish fan. Jim was a member of the Carroll Knights of Columbus and St. John Paul II Parish-St. Lawrence Church in Carroll.

Left to celebrate his life is his wife Diane Fay of Carroll; his children: Mike Fay of Omaha, Pat (Randy) Petersen of Waukee, Jim (Mary) Fay of Lincoln, NE, Beth Streit of Carroll, Marty Fay of Waukee, and Lori (Tim) Kasperbauer of Ankeny; his grandchildren: Nicole Crawford, Dan Petersen, Michael Petersen, Emily Eichelberger, Elliott Fay, Evan Fay, John Streit, Nick Streit, Drew Kasperbauer, Colin Kasperbauer, Claire Kasperbauer, Bailey Fay, Jake Fay, Tessa Fay, Emma Fay; 4 great-grandchildren; his sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law: Dave (Marci) Rettenmaier of Kansas City, MO, Mary (Allen) Holley of Bellevue, NE, and Kathy Rettenmaier of Owatonna, MN; special cousins, Jack, Jerry, and David Schmeiser; and other extended relatives.
