Reverend James L. Stringer, age 82, born October 18, 1935 in Troy, Alabama to the late Counsel and Hattie Stringer, transitioned from this life to be in the presence of the Lord, Saturday, June 30, 2018. He enrolled in Academy High School in 1955 and became the fifth honor student in his class. Reverend Stringer relocated to Dayton, Ohio on August 6, 1960.

He met and married Mary E. Craig December 24, 1961. Three children were born to this union; Yolanda, Yvette and Yvonne Stringer. Reverend Stringer remained married to Mary E. Craig-Stringer until 1979.

He was hired at Inland a Division of General Motors in 1966 as an Assembler and retired in 1991 after 26 years of service. Reverend Stringer became a Deacon at Mount Moriah Baptist Church in 1962 under the leadership of Reverend Morris Smith. He was a vocalist with Zion Trumpeter from 1960 to 1967 and recorded a record called “My Journey’s End”.

He sang with the Melody of Aires from 1968 to 1979 and recorded a record named “Stay with Me Jesus”. He became a Deacon at United Baptist Church in 1966 and preached his first trial sermon in 1973 at United Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend Charles Fair. He was later ordained by Reverend Perkins, President of the North Western Union.

Reverend Stringer was called to pastor Mount Gilead Baptist Church in 1973 and remained Pastor until his health began to decline during 2017. In 1979 Reverend Stringer had another child named Jaime Lequinne Stringer. In June of 1996, he met and married Annie Lois Banks.

Reverend Stringer’s life revolved around the church and his family. He was a great father and grandfather with a kind heart and spirit. He was wise, always had a smile on his face and believed in helping anyone.

He was also preceded in death by his brother, Larry Stringer. He leaves to celebrate his life; his wife of 22 years, Lois; (4) daughters; (4) grandchildren, Anthony, Latisha, De’Andre and Kenyatta; (6) sisters and (1) brother; his ex-wife and mother of three children, Mary Stringer; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other family members and friends. Visitation 4-7 pm Friday, July 6, 2018 at Mt.

Enon M. B. Church, 1501 W. Third St. Family will receive friends 5-7 pm. Funeral service 11 am Saturday, July 7, 2018 at the church.
