James Lawrence McCarthy passed away February 5, 2019 at the age of 84. He was born November 23, 1934 in Middleton, Ohio to the late Arthur William McCarthy and Margaret E Boyle McCarthy. He was preceded in death by his wife, Jean Carnahan; granddaughter, Heather Marie McCarthy and brothers, Michael McCarthy and Patrick McCarthy.

He was reared in Detroit, Michigan and attended St. Catherine High School, where he played football, basketball and ran track. He graduated class of 1953. He was voted All City Honorable and All State in football.

He served in the U.S. Navy from 1953-1957 as Petty Officer 3rd Class. Later, he went to college on a G.I. Bill and earned his M.B.A. at Brenau University in Atlanta, Georgia. He was the Field Service Manager for Intergraph Corporation in Atlanta.

He moved to Selma in 2009. He is survived by his sons, David, Danny, Jeffrey, Kevin (Cheryl) and Timothy and his faithful friend, Shannon Linden. No services will be held at this time.
