James Monroe Styles of Mars Hill died Friday, November 30, 2018. A native of Yancey County, he was a son of the late Tom and Pansy Styles. James was also preceded in death by his first wife: Opal Emory Styles; and, a brother: Leonard Styles.

He had been a resident of Weaverville since 1983; prior to that he lived in Harper Woods, MI for 34 years. James retired from Chrysler Corporation in 1983 after 32 years of service. He was a member of Ivy Hill Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon.

Surviving are his wife of 13 years: Gladys Ward; son: Jimmy Styles and wife, Yvonne; sister: Lois Byrd; grandchildren: Joshua Styles and wife, Charlotte, and Jessica Styles; and great grandchildren: Cara, Anna and Elise Styles. Funeral services will be held at 3PM Saturday, December 2, 2018, at West Funeral Home, 17 Merrimon Avenue, Weaverville. The family will receive friends from 3 until 5PM Saturday prior to the service at the funeral home.
