James Howard Daniels, also known as Nute, Uncle Nute, was born on December 3, 1925 to the late Reverend Samuel Willie Daniels and Buna Mae Daniels in Elba, Alabama. James grew up and attended school in Shady Grove. James relocated to North Carolina where he was joined in marriage to the late Lillie Mae Johnson.

From that marriage two children were born; Willie and Barbara. Upon James’ relocation to Elba, he was joined together in love to the late Johnnie Mae Stoudmire. James was employed by the City of Elba Water & Electric Department as a Line-man Helper.

After many years of service he retired in 1988. Watching sports was James’ favorite pastime and passion. He was an avid sports fanatic.

He really enjoyed watching all sports but baseball and football were his favorites. When it came to the Elba Tigers, he was front and center cheering them on. James also enjoyed a good game of checkers and dominos.

James’ grandfather, Elijah H. Daniels, was the founder of Shady Grove A.M.E. Church of which James served as a Steward and being the oldest male member, he was the Father of the church. James was a Godly man and a faithful servant of the Lord. He lived his life being kind and compassionate towards others, giving of himself selflessly to help others, human and animals alike.

James was an angel in our mist. On May 23, 2018, James was called home to be with the Lord. James was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Willie James Daniels; his siblings, Addie Mae Head, Pearline Blanchard, Mary Alice Lee, Rosetta Stephens, Ollie Brown, Buna V. Young, Viola Daniels, Clara Bell Daniels, Elijah Daniels, Willie David Daniels, Earnest Daniels, Johnny Samuels Daniels and William Bicker Daniels.

James leaves to cherish in love and memory his daughter, Barbara Daniels; his grandchildren, Kimberly Hypolite, Deidra Williams and Debra Muhammad. Great grandchildren, Brian, Alicia, Christopher, Christine and Denine. Great-great grandchildren, Ayana, Kiara,Julian, Alana and Chase, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and sister-in-law, Ether Mae Daniels.

All of James’ family and friends were important to him and they showered him with love. Just to mention a few: Randy Burnett who was like a nephew to James as well as a caregiver, Charlene Phillips, Foy Belcher, Verlin Whitfield, Angela Folmar, Willie Paul, Albert Green and Terry Caldwell.
