James P. Haughey, Jr. James Patrick Haughey, Jr, 52, died suddenly last week at his home in Pennsylvania. Jim was a devoted and loving father to Owen, who was the center of his whole world. Jim also leaves behind loving parents, James P. Sr, and Nancy, two sisters who adore him, Joelle, and her husband Quin Jarrett; Caitlin, and her husband Michael Albano, and his beloved nieces Ciara, Deirdre and Cecilia Albano.

Jim always delighted in spending time with his big Irish family (with too many relatives to list) whom he loved dearly, and friends who were like brothers to him; all of whom are missing him terribly already. Jimmy was raised in Mountainside, New Jersey where he learned to work hard and play hard. He prided himself on making more money shoveling driveways after a snowfall than any other kid, and cut lawns in the summer even though the lawnmower was bigger than he.

He gave his all on the swim team and in every soccer or little league game he ever played. While he was in high school at Seton Hall Prep he found the second greatest love in his life next to his family: skiing. For many years if he wasn’t cooking at Steak and Ale, he could be found on the slopes tearing up the trails with friends and cousins in the winter, and coaching a little league team or attending Jimmy Buffet concerts in the summer, impatiently waiting for the next snowfall.

After Jim graduated from Temple University, he moved to London for work and toured all over the UK, Ireland, and Europe creating wonderful memories with his visiting friends and family. He lived in South Boston, where he developed an affinity for the Red Sox and his Irish neighborhood, then moved to Pennsylvania and started eating Philly pretzels for breakfast. He spent the last 9 years playing outside with Owen every chance he had, and watching Temple basketball and Eagles games with him.

A keen observer, Jim immersed himself in local culture everywhere he went, and embraced all that life had to offer. He was exceedinly generous, perpetually kind, unfailingly loyal, and more stubborn than a bull. He was loved more than he ever knew.

Jim’s life will be celebrated at Higgins and Bonner Echo Lake Funeral Home, 582 Springfield Avenue, Westfield, NJ, with visitation on Wednesday, January 9 from 4:00 – 8:00 pm, and with a Mass of Christian Burial on Thursday, January 10, at 11:30 am in Our Lady of Lourdes Church, 304 Central Avenue, Mountainside, NJ.
