Obituary for James Pleasant White, Sr. James Pleasant White Sr., 88, of McGehee, a former business man and former owner of the McGehee Publishing Company and the Publisher of McGehee Times and Dermott News newspapers, passed away on Sunday Nov. 11, 2018 in McGehee. He was born Nov.

5, 1930 in Bolivar County, Mississippi the eldest son of Rev. James Ebb and Sallie Starnes White. James was raised in the Warren area, one of eight children.

He was a standout basketball player for the Warren Lumberjacks, a U.S. Army Veteran and loved the outdoors – especially duck hunting. Prior to coming to McGehee he was the publisher of the Warren Eagle-Democrat. After retirement he worked for the state of Arkansas doing work for the Game & Fish Commission.

He is preceded in death by his parents, his spouse, Rena Sue White and former wife, Marion Love Byrd; a brother, Gene White; four sisters, Katheryn Garner, Martha Murray, Sue Golsby, and Joyce Hall; a grandson Shane Childress. Survivors include his children, Fran (Roger) Childress and Jim (Arlene) White, both of McGehee; Tom (Susan) White of Monticello and Ann (Mike) Callison of Benton; his step-sons, Rick and Rod Thompson, both of McGehee and Rusty Thompson of Hot Springs; two sisters, Patricia Landers of North Little Rock and Mary Morton of Morrilton; 6 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren. Visitation will be held 5-7pm Tuesday, November 13, 2018 at Griffin-Culpepper Funeral Service in McGehee, AR.

Funeral services will be held at 2pm Wednesday, November 14, 2018 at the funeral home chapel with Rev. Mark Stripling officiating. Burial will follow at McGehee Cemetery.
