James Roorda August 13, 1941 – January 31, 2019 Share this obituary Send Flowers Sign Guestbook| Send Private Condolences| Send Sympathy Card James Roorda “Jim Roorda” was born to Cy and Corky Roorda on August 13, 1941 in Denver Colorado. He spent his formative years in South Denver surrounded by many relatives. Jim graduated in 1959 from Denver South High School where he was very involved athletically and named to the All State baseball team as a catcher.

Jim furthered his education by earning a B.A. degree from U.N.C. and then a master’s degree from C.S.U. Jim met Sandy, his wife of 58 years, at U.N.C. They enjoyed a wonderful life together that produced two Children, Larry and Rick. Jim’s career was focused on vocational education, teaching distributive education in both Las Animas and Loveland.

He went on to become an associate director of vocational education at Aims Community College in its formative years. This led to him becoming a member of the state board for vocational education in Denver. He finished his career with the St. Vrain Valley School District.

Jim was a very active dad who was always there for his boys and their activities, as a coach, cheerleader or spectator. Jim was one of the five men along with some key city council members that were instrumental in planning and building Centennial Baseball fields. He was very proud of this achievement, knowing that thousand of young people have benefited from using this facility.

Jim was also a very proud grandfather to Rock and Summer and enjoyed being part of their lives immensely. Jim fought a courageous battle with COPD. He did as much as he could each day and never complained.

He was an active member of the Mountain View Presbyterian Church, serving as an Elder, Sunday School teacher and a member of several committees. He enjoyed the fellowship and comradery of his golf group, poker group, and Mountain View Presbyterian Men’s group a great deal. Jim enjoyed golf and made it a retirement must.

He collected over 200 logo golf balls of courses he had played. His smile and laughter will be missed by many. He is survived by his wife Sandy, Sons Larry (Cindy Frank) and Rick, grandchildren Rock Roorda and Summer Roorda as well as many relatives including cherished nephews Doug and Craig Tamminga and niece Jamie Howard.

He was preceded in death by his parents and sister Carol Tamminga and her husband Jim Tamminga, and his father and mother in law Forest and Connie Mueller. Memorial donations to MVP Church or Loveland Baseball Association. Memorial service to be held Saturday, February 9th, 1:00 p.m. at Mountain View Presbyterian Church.
