OBITUARY James W. Krokus July 10, 1933 – November 29, 2018 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of James Krokus Sr., our beloved husband and father, who passed away peacefully at home on Thursday. Jim was born on July 10, 1933 in Little Ferry, New Jersey. He was one of nine children born to Joseph and Helen (nee May) Krokus.

After serving in the United States Army, Jim founded Picture Gardens Landscape Service, which he operated in Teaneck, New Jersey for many years. He married his love, Marie, on March 7th, 1959. In 1972, Jim and his family relocated to New City, New York, where he opened J. Krokus Nursery.

He spent the next 40 years raising his family and growing his business. Garden design was Jim’s passion, and he spent a great many years creating beautiful landscapes for his clients. In the decades he spent growing his nursery, he shared his passion with everyone he came across.

Jim made many friends throughout the years and he was a devout parishioner of St. Boniface. Jim had a special way of leaving a lasting impression on everyone he met. Jim leaves behind his loving wife of 59 years, Marie, at home, and his loving children: daughters Patty Stankevich and her husband Scott, Kathy, Debby and her partner Dennis Rocco, Susan and her partner John Gowrie and his son Jim Jr

He also leaves his siblings Paul Krokus, Helen Rittgers, Dorothy Hegner and Robert Krokus. His grandchildren Nicole, Danielle, Brian, Taylor, Jimmy and Jake. Step-grandchildren Marianne, Shawn and Carolyn.

Also, his four great-grandchildren Riley, Matthew, Ryan, Vanessa and Amelia. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews and a large extended family. He was preceded in death by his parents Joseph and Helen, his sister Veronica and brothers Joseph, Thomas and Donald, also, three infant sons and his beloved dog Rusty.

Family will receive friends on Tuesday from 2-4 & 6-9pm at Higgins Funeral Home, New City, NY. Mass of Christian Burial Wednesday at St. Boniface Church Wesley Hill, NY. Interment to follow at Ascension Cemetery Airmont, NY.
