James W. McVitty age 88, of Forest died at Blanchard Valley Hospital on Sun. Feb. 10, 2019.
He was born on May 14, 1930 in Mt. Blanchard to the late Carroll and Helen (Nesbaum) McVitty. He married Peggy Baldwin on May 21, 1994, she preceded him in death on Mar.
16, 2002, he then married JoAnn Vermillion on Oct. 15, 2005, she preceded him in death on Jan. 8, 2019.
He is survived by nephews Mark (Esther) Kliber, Sugar Creek, Philip (Ellen) Kliber, Chagrin Falls, John (Tammy) Kliber, Sugar Creek and a niece Nancy (Keith) Troyer, Sugar Creek, several great nieces and nephews, and sister Anna Belle Kliber of Sugar Creek. He is preceded in death by a brother-in-law Rev. Arnold Kliber.
James was a 1948 graduate of Forest High School. He was a prominent life-long farmer. Mr. McVitty was a lifetime devoted member of Forest United Methodist Church where he played on the church dart ball league.
James was very active within the community having served on leadership boards and committees throughout his life including The Gideons International, farm bureau and was a 50 year 4-H adviser. He was Director Emeritus of Community First Bank, Grand Lodge 50 year Mason where he received the Community Service Award and a Jackson Twp. Trustee for several terms.
For hobbies he enjoyed truck rides around his farm land, woodworking, fishing with his nieces and nephews and listening to music. James will be remembered as a loyal, faithful and humble servant. Funeral services are at 2:00 p.m. on Sun.
Feb. 17, 2019 at the Clark Shields Funeral Home with Pastor Doug Pummell officiating. Visitation will be held from 12:00-2:00 p.m. on Sun.
Feb. 17, 2019 at the funeral home. A private burial will be held in Hueston Cemetery.
