Cheraw, SC James Weldon Pruitt, 90, died Friday, May 3, 2019. Born in Cheraw, SC he was a son of the late Lewis Weldon and Ada Hodge Pruitt. He was a follower of the Lord Jesus Christ.

He was the retired owner of Northside Grocery. He was a member of the Men’s Association. He enjoyed Panthers Football, NASCAR, rabbit hunting, fishing and watching Westerns on TV.

Mr. Pruitt was known around town as “Big James”. He loved spending time with his wife “Miss Margie”, his family and friends. He was a US Army Veteran having served in the 82nd Airborne Division.

Surviving is his wife, Margie Thomas Pruitt of Cheraw, SC, sons, James “Jimmy” W. (Teri) Pruitt, Jr. of Little River, SC, Louis Wayne (Mica) Pruitt of Surfside Beach, SC, a niece/daughter, Sandra Hicks Sowell of Cheraw, SC, a nephew, Joel K. Pruitt of Cheraw, SC, extended family member and companion Sherry Hinson of Cheraw, SC, a sister, Leola Agnes Pruitt Born of California, grandchildren, Hays Pruitt, Mikey Pruitt, Katey Pruitt, Jay Pruitt, Clark Pruitt, Lexi Pruitt, Amy Sowell, Gregory Sowell, Chris Sowell and great grandchildren, Ivan, Mary, Caskey, Kayleigh, Jayson, Anthony, Connor, Mills, Rhett, Stella, Rylee, Gage and Logan, also, caregivers, Brenda, Edith, Mary and Stephanie. He was preceded in death by his parents listed above, a baby boy Pruitt, nephew/son-in-law, Darrell Sowell, a brother, George Franklin Pruitt, sisters, Myrtle Pruitt Jucarone and Edith Pruitt Mehall. The family will receive friends 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM, Sunday, May 5, 2019 at the home, 516 Third Street, Cheraw, SC.
