OBITUARY James W. Shouse April 2, 1943 – September 21, 2018 James Willard “Jim” Shouse, 75, of Moss Bluff, LA, passed away Friday morning, September 21, 2018 at his residence. He enjoyed spending time with his wife and grandson, fishing, mowing, and feeding the birds. James Willard “Jim” Shouse was born on April 2, 1943, in Blackwell, Oklahoma, to Willard Cecil and Pauline (Manley) Shouse.

He attended Blackwell Public Schools, graduating from Blackwell High School in 1961. Jim married Vernadine Jo (Brown) on August 1, 1964 in Blackwell, Oklahoma and they made Blackwell their home. He was an active member of the First Christian Church where he served as a deacon, taught Sunday School, and was involved in The Boy Scouts of America serving as Scout Master.

Jim started work at Conoco in Ponca City, Oklahoma in 1965 and worked there until 1995. In 1995, he transferred to the Lake Charles, LA Conoco refinery where he retired in 2003 after 38 years of service, as a research and development lab technician. Jim and his wife were faithful members of Moss Bluff United Methodist Church where they enjoyed Young at Heart, working in the thrift shop, and helping with the pumpkin patch and other activities.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Vernadine Shouse; one son, Richard Shouse of Houston, TX; one daughter, Jennifer Kurzy and husband Thomas of Houston,TX; one sister, MaryAnne Simunek and husband Jimmy of Lake Jackson, TX; one grandson, Robert (Rocky) Kurzy of Houston, TX; along with several nieces and nephews; and numerous great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Willard and Pauline Shouse; his son, James Matthew Shouse; two nephews; and several aunts and uncles. A Celebration of James’ life will be held 1:00pm on Monday, September 24, 2018 at Hixson Funeral Home of Moss Bluff with Celebrant Jody Barrilleaux officiating.

Visitation with the family to follow at the conclusion of the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Moss Bluff United Methodist Church Thrift Shop. Words of comfort may be shared with the family at www.
