James Wickcliff Fortune, Jr., age 66, resident of Somerville, Tennessee, departed this life Sunday morning, May 6, 2018 at his residence. A Memorial Service for Mr. Fortune will be at 1 P.M. Thursday, May 10, 2018 at the Peebles West Funeral Chapel at Oakland with Bro. Rickey Burns, pastor of Williston Baptist Church, officiating.

Interment will be private. A visitation for Mr. Fortune will be from 11 A.M. to 1 P.M. Thursday, May 10, 2018 at the Peebles West Funeral Chapel at Oakland. Arrangements will be provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes & Cremation Center – West Chapel at Oakland.

Mr. Fortune was born April 12, 1952 in Memphis, Tennessee. He was a graduate of Frayser High School Class of 1970 and was employed as a supervisor of appraisals for Mercury Printing before his retirement. He was a longtime resident of the Memphis area before moving to Somerville in 2016.

Mr. Fortune was of the Christian faith and enjoyed reading and basketball. He will be remembered for being a loving father, grandfather and friend. Mr. Fortune is survived by three daughters, Brandy Huff (Matt) of Somerville, TN, Meuryn Fortune of Southaven, MS, Shelli Ruibal (David) of Tupelo, MS; two sons, James W. Fortune, III of Southaven, MS, Johnny Smith of Frayser, TN; his mother, Barbara L. Howard of Southaven, MS; four sisters, Janet White (Larry) of Southaven, MS, Deb Welch (James) of Arlington, TN, Peggy Sanchez of Southaven, MS, Stephanie Davis (Brian) of Hickory Flat, MS; and four grandchildren, Zachary Huff, Cody Huff, Kayla Huff and Charles Fortune.

He was preceded in death by his father, James Wickcliff Fortune, Sr. and his brother, Willie Fortune. Honorary pallbearers will be Terry Williams, Brandon Perez, Tim Griffith, Joe Looney and Quinten Lemley. The family requests that memorials be directed to the Fayette County Chapter of the American Cancer Society, c/o Christine Parks, 401 Midland Street, Somerville, TN 38068.
