Obituary of James McCollom James Thomas McCollom, of Minooka, passed away at the age of 65 on Tuesday, January 8, 2019, surrounded by the love of his family. Jim was born on September 30, 1953, the son of the late James Francis and Mary Therese (nee Hyland) McCollom. Jim was born and raised in Chicago and was a graduate of Hubbard High School, Class of 1971.

After graduation, Jim decided to follow in his father’s footsteps and went to the police academy. He enjoyed a rewarding 28 year career, beginning in the 11th District, with the Chicago Police Department before retiring in 2005 as a Sergeant with the 2nd District. When he wasn’t protecting and serving, he was an avid comic book collector, enjoyed playing World of Warcraft and loved to listen to Pink Floyd.

Above all, Jim was a family man who instilled strong values in his children and grandchildren, who were the loves of his life! Jim is survived by his loving wife of 44 years, Deborah (nee Studzinski); his two sons, Kyle (Elizabeth) McCollom and Tim (Kelly) McCollom; grandchildren, Riley, Bridget, Amelia and Timmy McCollom; and his siblings, Patti (Jim Zafiratos) McCollom, Lynn (Pat) McCarron, Mary Kay (Brian) McInerney, and Tommy (Theresa) McCollom. Several nieces, nephews and his brothers in blue also survive.

He is preceded in death by his parents. Visitation for James McCollom will be held from 2:00 p.m. until the time of service at 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 13, 2019, at the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black at Essington Rds. , Joliet, IL.
