Jan McCann, 67, of Wahpeton, ND, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family, due to pulmonary fibrosis, on Wednesday, May 8, 2019 at Sanford Medical Center in Fargo, ND. Services will be at 12:00 pm on Thursday, May 16, 2019 with visitation one hour prior to service at Vertin-Munson Funeral Home in Wahpeton, ND. Father Dale Lagodinski will officiate.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Vertin-Munson Funeral Home, Wahpeton. Jan was born on August 16, 1951, to George and Barbara (Anderson) Schuler in Breckenridge, MN. She grew up and attended school in Breckenridge, graduating from BHS in 1969.

She went on to attend Moorhead State University receiving her B.S. degree in Elementary Education. Jan taught school in the Wahpeton area for several years before continuing her education at Moorhead State. She received her B.S. degree in Paralegal Studies, over the years she worked for Lies & Bullis Law, Kragness Law and Krekelberg Law, where she retired from in 2018.

She was united in marriage to Mike McCann in Breckenridge, MN, on December 28, 1973. Jan was a technology girl, she loved her electronics and enjoyed being at home reading a good book. She loved a good debate with others and was always there to offer help and advice.

Spending time at Ottertail Lake and with her family and her pets was always special to Jan. Jan is survived by her daughter, Amanda (Stacy) Buckhouse and their children, Noah and Rylee, Breckenridge; her son, Rory (Tina) McCann, Wahpeton; her companion, Mike McCann, Wahpeton; brother, George “Jody” (Holly) Schuler, III, Wahpeton; sister-in-law, Susan Schuler, Minnetrista, MN; brothers-in-law, Dan (Karen) McCann, Wahpeton and Steve (Deb) McCann, Albertville, MN; and several nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, George and Barbara; her brother, Kim; and father and mother-in-law, Gerald and Shirley McCann.

A special thank you to Sanford’s Intermediate Care Unit and the Palliative Care Team for their amazing and sympathetic care. Jan was a compassionate person in life and in death, happy to donate her organs. In lieu of flowers, the family wishes donations be made to Sanford’s Palliative Care or the American Lung Association in her honor.
