Jane E.Clow (l00 years old) of Sarasota, FL previously of the Naperville area, passed away on November 3, 2018. She was born on July 26, 1918, the only child of Sterling and Inez Patterson. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Harry M. Clow; her son, Robert S. Clow; and two daughters in laws, Nancy Jo Clow and Mary Carol Clow.
She is survived by a son, John and (Jeanne) Clow of Sarasota, FL; and five grandsons, Shawn and (Kay) Clow of Darien, WI; Jeff and (Janice) Clow of Mundelein,… Read More » IL; David and (Holly) Clow of Oviedo, FL; Aaron and (Julie) Clow of Granger, IN; and Edward and (Amy) Clow of New York, NY. She also has been blessed with three great grandsons and seven great granddaughters, all of which she adored. Jane was born into the Patterson family which was one of the pioneer families from Scotland who settled in Wheatland Township.
She lived for a good part of her life on a farm south of Naperville which was purchased by her great grandfather in the l850’s. Her grandfather and father continued to operate the farm. In 1950, her husband took over the reins of running the farm.
She married into the Clow family, another pioneer family who settled in the area in the 1840’s. She and Harry raised their family on that farm. Jane enjoyed her family a great deal.
She also liked gardening and many creative craft endeavors, such as knitting, sewing, ceramics, basket making and scrapbooking. In her later years when living in Florida, she made items out of pine needles which she shared with many family and friends. The Clow home was synonymous with hospitality.
Many of the children of Jane’s first cousins as well as her grandchildren spent time with Harry and Jane on the farm for a week or more during the summer. During one of the visits by her grandchildren, each demonstrated his artistic skills by painting a vehicle on the barn doors or the nearby fence—be it a rocket, tractor, car, etc. They were sufficiently visible from the road that they became identifier of their property.
Harry and Jane hosted a community garden for members of their church. Jane also ran a basket-making class in their home for several years. Jane loved to travel.
Even though she lived in one place for approximately 70 years of her life, she was curious about other areas and the people living in those areas. She and Harry traveled extensively in the United States as well as abroad. She was a steadfast follower of Christ and shared her love of Christ as a Sunday School teacher and Youth Leader with her husband at DuPage Presbyterian Church.
Later, she and her husband were very active in the Evangelical Free Church of Naperville (now known as the Compass Church). Jane was also a leader in the women’s auxiliary of the Gideon Camp in Joliet, IL. The family asks for no flowers as a memorial.

A funeral service will be held Saturday at the Beidelman-Kunsch Funeral Home at 10 am with Rev. Lesely officiating. Interment to follow at Wheatland Township Cemetery, Naperville.
