Janet’s Obituary Janet Elaine Thorpe was born on December 24, 1945 in Dayton, Ohio. She was educated through the Dayton Public School System. She attended Roosevelt High School.

Later she came to Chicago, where she attended night school and got her bachelor’s degree. She started Amtrak in August of 1976. Retired in January 2007 with 31 years of service.

Janet loved doing crafts, traveling, and playing bidwhist, and especially going to the boat. She was preceded in death by her mother, Gloria Thorpe and sister, Norma Johnson. She leaves to cherish her daughter, Valerie Thorpe of Chicago: brother, Allister Thorpe, Sr. (Wanda); nephews, Allister, Jr., Jamarcus and Jamarius Thorpe of Dayton, Irving Johnson, Terrell Laverne, and Mark Johnson; nieces, Deena Douze and Michele Vasquez of Georgia; cousin, Rodney Stegall of Dayton, Ohio.

She leaves a host of family and many dear friends.
