Visitation will be 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Thursday with a 7:00 p.m. Vigil Service at St. Mary’s Church. Home for Funerals is in charge of arrangements. Janet passed away on Monday, December 3, 2018 at her home in Norfolk after a long battle with cancer.
Janet was born to Francis and Shirley (Mohnsen) Kluthe in West Point, NE on April 19, 1960. She was raised alongside her 6 brothers and sisters in Howells, NE where she graduated high school. Janet attended Norfolk Beauty College and was part of the Nebraska Electrolysis Association where she became president.
Then began her 35 year career of making people even more beautiful with her talents. Janet also shared her heart with the Big Brothers Big Sisters organization where she spent time as the president and secretary. Janet still kept in touch with her “little sister” for over 20 years.
Janet was united in marriage to Michael Jundt on June 19, 1982 at Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Howells and made their loving home in Norfolk, NE. There they raised 2 daughters, Sydney and Courtney, and 3 dogs over the years. Though it’s fair to say her daughters and grandchildren were her pride and joys, her beautiful gardens were a close second.
She spent hours outside fervently tending to the abundance of flowers that caught the eye and compliment of many passersby. Each spring was a time of renewal for both her gardens and her soul. When she wasn’t in her garden, she would spend time on the porch praying, reading, and watching for her beloved hummingbird friends.
Janet would sit and wait for the quiet hum and chirps of those hummingbirds, a sign of hope and strength. Though her hummer friend “Jimmy” filled her heart with so much joy, it never came close to the joy she received from God. Janet was heavily involved with her church.
Her faith was strong and steadfast through every trial and triumph. She was a model of the Catholic faith and an inspiration to many. Janet had a laugh and presence nearly as big as her heart.
Her smile filled every room and she was always the life of the party. She went out of her way to make sure you felt her love for you. She loved her family with all she had.
Janet will be remembered for her love for God, her laugh, gentleness, smile, creativity, and humility. Janet fought a courageous battle against cancer. Her strength and grace was unmeasurable.
May we all have strength like her to continue to live our lives to the fullest in faith, love, laughter, and grace like she did, and wishes of us. Mom, Heaven couldn’t wait for you. What a beautiful celebration it must have been to finally welcome you home.
We would like to extend our deepest gratitude to the numerous healthcare teams who provided excellent, compassionate care over the past 6 years. Janet is survived by her mother Shirley Kluthe, her husband Mike, daughters Sydney (Ross) Hilkemann and Courtney Jundt, siblings Cindy (Bill) Kroll, Michael (Marilyn) Kluthe, Patty (Michael) Recker, Doug Kluthe, and Chris Kluthe, grandchildren Kendall and Miles Hilkemann, mother-in-law Mary Jundt, in-laws Diane (Garry) Retzlaff, Sue Doerr, Kay (Curt) Bilse, and David (Kris) Jundt, along with numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews whom all she held dearly in her heart. She will also be remembered by many more of her beloved extended family including Dwight (Kathy) Jundt, Dale Jundt, Diane Darrow, Laurie (Mike) Donlon, Karen Kluthe and friends.
