She was born December 30, 1939 in Jackson, Michigan daughter of the late Kenneth and Pauline (Brooks) Walling. Janet resided in the Sturgis area since 1987 coming from Coldwater.

She was first married to William Leon Spade. On August 22, 1987 she married DeWitt L. Grove at the Pretty Prairie Church in Howe, Indiana.
