Janette’s Obituary Janette Mary Harrison, 92 of Upper Marlboro, Maryland. The Obituary Janette Mary Harrison (aged 92), of Upper Marlboro, MD, was born on March 4, 1927 to the late Edward and Marion Brooks in Washington, D.C. She departed this life after a brief illness on May 9, 2019, at Anne Arundel Medical Center.
Janette was baptized at an early age and joined the First Baptist Church of Deanwood during the pastorate of Rev. A.J. Allen, in 1953. She was married for 59 years to the late Leon Lecount Harrison, on September 18, 1959.
From this union, they had a son, Mark L. Harrison, and from a former marriage, son Conrad D. Parker and daughter Ruth Kappy Majekodunmi (Karen). She has two step children, son Ronald F. Harrison and daughter Cassandra D. Harrison. Mrs. Harrison was educated in the D.C. Public School System and attended Miner Teachers College in Washington, D.C.
She was employed with the federal government at the General Accounting Office and retired as a supervisor from the U.S. Department of Commerce. After retirement, she learned to crochet and became very proficient, producing many beautiful dolls, doll clothes, and shawls. She loved to make gifts for family and friends from the items she crocheted.
She loved to attend Bible study, politely holding the instructors accountable to the truth. She loved to sing and sang with the Senior Choir at the First Baptist Church of Deanwood for over 50 years. She enjoyed watching the snow fall and sitting in the sun.
She and her late husband enjoyed music together. She would play the piano and he would sing. She loved gardening.
Each year she would plant, weed and share garden stories with the family. Although she didn’t like to cook and bake, she was good at it, often experimenting with different recipes and using her family as the guinea pigs. She leaves to cherish her memory sons Rev.
Conrad Parker (Diana), Rev. Ronald Harrison (Jeanette), Mark Harrison, and daughters Ruth Kappy Majekodunmi (Oluwatoyin) and Cassandra Harrison, seven grandchildren, Tiffany Adams, Melissa Tapscott (Alvin), Anita Walls, Ronnette Harrison, David, Michael and Emmanuel Majekodunmi, great grandchildren Michael Adams Jr. (Loren), Alayna and Melanie Tapscott, nieces Marcia and Camille Brooks, nephews Jason Eaton (Susan) and Jordan Payne, special friend, Annie Hubbard, and many other relatives and friends. Viewing, 10:00 a.m. until time of Service, 11:00 a.m., Friday, May 17, 2019 at The First Baptist Church of Deanwood, 1008 – 45th Street & Sheriff Road, Northeast, Washington, DC 20019.
