OBITUARY Janice Anne DiGioia January 30, 1957 – January 6, 2019 Janice Anne DiGioia, 61, of Chatham died peacefully at home on Sunday, January 6, 2019 surrounded by her loving family. She leaves behind her loving husband of 20 years, Jerry Evans and their two German Shepherds Amy Marie and Rainier. Janice was born in Dansville, NY on January 30, 1957 to her late parents Joseph and Rosalind (Delaney) DiGioia.

She was raised in Mt. Morris, NY where she graduated from Mt. Morris Central High School.

After high school graduation, Janice attended Alfred University where she received her BSN (’79). She moved to Quechee, VT and began her nursing career at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, NH. In 1982 she and her late mother Roz took a great cross-country ride to Fort Defiance, AZ where Janice began what she referred to as her ‘Southwest spiritual quest’.

She pursued her Master’s degree at the University of Kentucky and graduated with a Master of Science in Nurse-midwifery (’84). Soon after graduation, Janice came to the Cape and established the first Cape Cod Midwife program with Dr. William Connolly’s private practice, the following year she joined Cape Cod Hospital where she remained for 5 years before moving to Florida to work with Sunlife Locum Tenens. In 1993, Janice came back to Massachusetts and settled in Quincy working for Locum Cambridge (South Shore Women’s Health) and in 2009 she rejoined Cape Cod Hospital where she remained until retirement.

Janice loved life; she loved her job, her home and most of all her family. In her words, “so lucky to have had it all! ” Things that made Janice smile were gardening, fresh tomatoes on the vine and her Alfred girls whom she adored.

Her proudest moment, her nieces “living their true selves in every way”; her proudest career accomplishment, the success of Cape Cod Hospital Midwifery Service. . so proud.

Janice is predeceased by her parents. In addition to her husband she is survived by her brother Tom (Leesa Powers) DiGioia, sister Diane (Ken) Asai and her very close nieces Sarah, Abby, Caitlin, Kim and Mary. She also leaves behind her grandnieces Ayla and Amelia and grandnephew Joseph James (JJ).

Calling hours will take place at Doane, Beal & Ames Funeral Home, 260 Main St. (Route 28), West Harwich, MA 02671 on Thursday, January 10th from 1 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. Funeral services will immediately follow and be officiated by Rev. Faith Lavender. Janice will be laid to rest with her parents 12 noon Saturday, January 12, 2019 at St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Mt.
