Janice Carroll McDowell went home to be with the Lord on May 1st, 2019, after a long and courageous battle with Rheumatoid Arthritis. She was born in Clinchmore, Tennessee at 9:00 AM, February 22nd, 1944 on a Tuesday. Janice attended the Stoney Fork School on Caryville Mountain, and was of the Baptist faith in her youth and adult life.

She lived many years in the Caryville community with her husband of nearly thirty years before his death in 1991, and raised her children in the Caryville, Tennessee area. She became a long term resident of The Waters Health and Rehabilitation Center, formerly Golden Living and Windwood Health and Rehabilitation in Clinton, Tennessee. Anyone who knew Janice soon realized how giving, self-sacrificing, and amazing she was.

She was an excellent wife, mother, homemaker, friend, caregiver, and Christian woman. She was preceded in death by her parents Isaac and Ellen Phillips Carroll; her husband Reverend Kyle J. McDowell, Sr. from North Carolina; her Son-In-Law Will Junior Thacker and Granddaughter, Gina Renee Thacker both of Knoxville; as well as two brothers, Johnny and Daniel Carroll of LaFollette, Tennessee. Surviving Janice are her four children: Cynthia McDowell Thacker (husband Will Junior Thacker – deceased) of Knoxville, Tennessee; Tresa McDowell Jones and husband Jeff of Nashville, Tennessee; as well as Kyle McDowell, Jr. and wife Tammy of LaFollette, Tennessee; and Joseph McDowell and wife Melinda also of LaFollette, Tennessee.

She is also survived by her only grandson, Joshua Bradley McDowell of Jacksboro, Tennessee; and granddaughters Lindsey Morgan McDowell of LaFollette, Tennessee, and Bethany Autumn McDowell of Nashville, Tennessee. Janice is also survived by her sisters, Faye Carroll Jones and husband Billy Joe; Lois Carroll Brown and former husband Jimmy; Aslee Carroll Miracle and husband Danny; Mary Carroll Murphy and husband Mack; Dora Carroll Cook and former husband Houston; Eva Carroll Holt and former husband Mike; and Becky Carroll Jones and husband Danny. Also surviving Janice are her brothers Randle Carroll and former wife, Debbie; and Bill Carroll with wife, Sylvia.

Many nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws and countless special friends. The family will receive friends on Saturday, May 4th, 2019 from 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm at Hatmaker’s Funeral Home; 503 South Main Street; Lake City, TN (Rocky Top) 37769; 865-426-2158; www. hatmakerfuneralhome.com.

The funeral service will follow the receiving of friends with Janice’s son, Rev. Kyle McDowell, Jr. officiating. Thank you to Eddie Bridges for reading the Eulogy with special thanks to Joshua and Lindsey McDowell as well as Katie McCullough Collins for singing.

Thank you to everyone who participated in the planning and care of such a unique and special lady. In the spirit of Janice’s heart and soul, everyone is welcome to attend and show their respects accordingly. A family graveside service is scheduled for 2:00 pm Sunday, May 5th at Laurel Dale Cemetery in Rugby Tennessee.
