Janice was born on August 9, 1950 to John and Arlene McDermott in Williamsport, Pennsylvania. Janice is the second child of five siblings. It wasn’t until Janice wet to Mansfield College that she met her future husband, Fred Hatch.

Both were in school to be teachers. Being a few years ahead. Janice graduated, found a job in town, and waited for Fred to finish school.

Fred and Janice were married on her 25th birthday, August 9th1975. Instead of going on a honeymoon, they moved from Pennsylvania to Glen Burnie, Maryland, where Fred began his teaching career at Old Mill High School. Janice became a substitute teacher.

Janice blended in so well with the students that Fred had to write her a permanent pass to explain she was a teacher not a student. Even though Janice enjoyed many different interests, caring for her family is what Janice cherished the most. Janice and Fred had two children, Cassie Born June 17th 1981 and Meghan Born July 23, 1985.

Family time was very important to Janice, and she often traveled back to Pennsylvania or to Delaware to visit her and Fred’s families. Some of Janice’s interests include sewing and cooking. Most Thursday nights were spent playing bingo.

Janice and Fred loved to travel, with two of their favorite destinations being Nashville TN and Branson, MO. Janice is preceded by her husband, her parents, and a sister. She is survived by her daughter and son-in law Cassie and Joe Ruelos, her daughter Meghan Hatch, her sister Candy Ferguson, and her brothers John and Rick McDermott.

Family invites friends to call at the Charles L. Stevens Funeral Home, Inc. 1501 E. Fort Avenue, Locust Point MD 21230 on Saturday 2:00pm – 3:00pm. Funeral services will be held at the conclusion of the visitation at 3:00pm. Interment will be private.

Family will have a reception immediately following the funeral service at the funeral home. Family request in lieu of flowers contributions be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, www. act.
