Janice R. (Reese) Barrington Age 69, passed peacefully on Friday, July 20, 2018 after a hard-fought battle with breast cancer. Janice was the daughter of the late James and Catherine Reese and she grew up in Scranton, PA with her two sisters, Dr. Robin Reese and Julie Wallace. Her childhood summers were spent playing in the woods, learning to cook, and enjoying time with family.

She graduated from the University of Pittsburgh with a degree in accounting and worked outside the home for a while before deciding to devote all her time to her family and community. An avid traveler, gifted gardener, and talented cook, Janice was never one to lie idle. After returning to Pittsburgh in 2000, Janice immediately busied herself by joining the Newcomers and Perennial Garden Clubs.

Before long she was a staple in the community and always active in her children’s lives, serving on the Dorseyville PTO and acting as President of the Fox Chapel Band Parents Association. She also organized and ran the Fox Chapel Cotillion program teaching hundreds of middle schoolers etiquette and ballroom dancing. Even after being diagnosed with breast cancer in 2003, Janice never lost steam.

She successfully completed surgery, chemotherapy, and radiation treatments and went into remission. Even as she fought, she stayed busy. When she wasn’t teaching friends to play bridge or running lunch groups, she was volunteering and organizing fundraisers for local nonprofits such as the American Association of University Women (AAUW) and the Women’s Board of Pittsburgh.

Always a pillar of strength, Janice faced the challenge head-on when her cancer returned in 2011. Instead of giving up, she continued to live her life to the fullest. She and her husband saw the world together, touring the streets of Hungary, seeing the sights in Venice by gondola, travelling the Danube by riverboat and cruising the Baltic Sea.

She also accumulated an impressive collection of fine art through her travels. Janice is survived by her devoted husband of 35 years, William Barrington, along with her loving children; Katherine Barrington, Elizabeth Barrington (Brent Nesbitt), and William Barrington; her sisters Dr. Robin Reese (Bill Fakes) and Julie Wallace; her niece and nephew, Sarah Hughes and Josh Hughes; and by her faithful dog, Angel. Her passing leaves an empty seat at the family dinner table but the memory of her love, her strength, and her fortitude lives on in the hearts of her dearest friends and family.

Friends will be received Friday, July 27th from 2-4 and 6-8pm at Weddell-Ajak Funeral Home, 100 Center Ave. , Aspinwall, where a funeral service will be held on Saturday, July 28th at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that a memorial contribution be made in her memory to the American Heart Association. Donations may be made to: American Heart Association 444 Liberty Ave.
