He spent his elementary years in his beloved town of Woodstock, Virginia in the Shenandoah Valley. During that time, he made many life-long friendships that he cherished up until the day he died. As a freshman in High School, he relocated with his father to Chantilly, Virginia.
He attended Chantilly High School where he excelled at many sports including basketball and football. Following high school, he attended Bridgewater College in Virginia and graduated with a BS in Business in 1983. After college graduation, he relocated to Texas to be closer to his beloved mother.
In Texas, he began his career in the hospitality industry focusing on conference sales. Throughout his career, he worked for many properties in Texas; but, his favorite properties were the Sandestin Hilton and the Sandestin Beach and Golf Resort in Florida where he enjoyed much success and cultivated strong collegial work relationships as well as many friends. In recent years, Jay’s career focus shifted to land sales and he sold land for The Preserve in Cleveland Texas and later at The Commons of Lake Houston.
Jay had a passion for his family, sports and classic rock. Jay and Mary were married for 24 years and raised two wonderful sons, Jake (19) and Ty (17). As a child, Jay developed an early interest in sports and participated in baseball, football, basketball, track, tennis, skiing and golf.
As a high school basketball player, he was recruited by many colleges and ultimately played for Bridgewater College in Virginia as both a point guard and shooting guard. Later as a father, he channeled this passion into coaching his son’s teams for many years. He was also an avid music lover and had a great passion for Motown music – especially the Temptations.
Jay was well regarded for his uncanny ability to recite music and sports trivia. He was a loyal friend to many and known for a gregarious nature, infectious smile and a kind and compassionate spirit. Jay was preceded in death by his father, Joe and uncle, Neil.
