Jay Ross Griggs , October 13, 1936 — December 11, 2018

Jay Ross Griggs, age 82, died Tuesday, December 11, 2018 at his winter home in Echo Bay, Nevada. He was born October 13, 1936 in Idaho Falls, Idaho to John Roland and Helen Amelia Maier Griggs. On May 30, 1956 he married Carla Lorraine Finley in Idaho Falls, Idaho.

They were later sealed in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. Jay grew up in Idaho Falls. He served in the US Army as a Military Policeman during the Korean Conflict.

He later joined the Air Force, starting his family in Pattesburg, New York. He had a goal to move to Alaska, build a log cabin and learn how to fly, and that’s exactly what he did. He lived near the North Pole working for the Corps of Engineers, finally retiring to Cove, Utah in 1978.

He and Carla started wintering in Echo Bay in 1996. Jay loved the outdoors, hunting and fishing. He was a talented artist and enjoyed making jewelry.

Always easy to talk to, he made friends easily. He remained faithful to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints throughout his life. Survivors include his high school sweetheart of 62 years, Carla; son, Michael J. (Wendy) of Bountiful, UT; daughter, Kathlene J. (Brent) Christensen of Riverton, UT; 10 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren and one brother, Jack W. Of Idaho Falls, ID.

He was preceded in death by two sons, Daniel and David and one brother, Marvin. Funeral services will be held Monday, December 17, 2018 at 11 a.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Cove LDS Chapel, (Street Address) Cove, Idaho. Visitation will be from 9:30 – 10:30 a.m. prior to services at the chapel.

Interment will follow in the Lewiston City Cemetery, Lewiston, Utah.
