OBITUARY Jean M. Dicks October 5, 1929 – January 4, 2019 Play Tribute Movie Margaret Jean (Sample) Dicks October 5, 1929 – January 4, 2019 Jean passed away peacefully in her sleep at her home in Widefield after a year of health issues. Jean was born to Sylvia Marion (Schoonover) Sample and Charles Clell Sample in 1929 in Green City, Missouri during the depression. Jean’s mother passed away shortly after her birth from complications.

Her father re-married and raised her two brothers, Edwin and John Sample (both deceased). Jean was raised by her grandmother. Jean married Bill Dicks in 1949 in Corning, Iowa.

They have three children: Russell (Diann), Ron, and Rosemary (Mike Iverson). Bill and Jean moved from Iowa to Wichita, KS in the late 50’s. Jean was very active in her children’s lives and also helped with raising other relatives’ children: Dana (Sprawls) Kraft, Wanda (Schoonover), Dale and Mike Kelly (both deceased).

Jean was blessed with four grandchildren: Allyson & Christa (Russell Dicks) and Leon & Kyle (Ron Dicks), and was also blessed with a great grandchild, Devon (Christa). Jean worked during the late 60’s for Beech Aircraft and served on the board of directors. Her specialty was the Bell helicopter during the Vietnam War, but also worked on other military air craft.

In 1969, Jean and Bill moved to Salida, Colorado. They also lived in Fountain and then to their current home in Widefield, CO. Jean was very active in the American Legion Post 38 Auxiliary and filled the office of Chaplain for many years.

She held life-long memberships in both the VFW and the American Legion. She enjoyed the responsibility, honor and friendships she made, truly loved all her friends and enjoyed competing in dart tournaments. Jean will be missed by her husband, Bill, her children, relatives and friends.

There will be a viewing on Tuesday, January 15th, 6-8PM at Dove-Witt Family Mortuary (6630 S US Hwy 85/87). The funeral service will be Wednesday, January 16th, 10:00AM followed by a reception, both at Dove-Witt Family Mortuary. A burial will take place 1:00PM at Pikes Peak National Cemetery (10545 Drennan Rd, 80925).
