Jean Ferguson Bien, 88, of Westminster, passed away on Monday, December 3, 2018 at Carroll Lutheran Village. Born June 4, 1930 in Hyattsville, she was the daughter of the late Remick Sparks and Anna Maria Hook Ferguson. She was the loving wife of Jerome Irvin Bien, Jr., whom she married April 4, 1953.

Jean graduated with a bachelor’s degree from University of Maryland. She was a devoted teacher for Head Start and Howard County Schools. Jean was a member of Linus Project, the Book Club… Read More » at Carroll Lutheran Village, and Alpha Omicron Pi at University of Maryland.

She loved knitting, crocheting, golfing and gardening. Jean attended First Lutheran Church in Ellicott City. Surviving in addition to her husband are children William Remick Bien and wife Sally of Sterling, VA, and James Irvin Bien and wife Nancy of Waynesboro, PA; granddaughters Kimberly Marie Santamaria and husband Danis, and Carolyn Ann Bien; great-granddaughter Daniela Isabel Santamaria; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her parents and sister Elizabeth Ferguson Smith. The family will welcome friends on Friday, December 7, 2018 from 10:00 am to 11:00 am at Krug Chapel of Carroll Lutheran Village, 300 St. Luke Circle, Westminster, MD, where funeral services will be held at 11:00 am. Interment will follow at St. John’s Cemetery in Ellicott City.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in her name to Carroll Hospice Dove House, 292 Stoner Ave. , Westminster, MD 21157 or to the American Cancer Society, 1933 Progress Way, Suite 908, Eldersburg, MD 21784.
