Obituary for Jean Marie Burns Jean Marie Burns of Saline, MI passed away peacefully after a prolonged illness on Thursday, October 18, 2018, at 74 years of age. Jean was born on April 30, 1944, in Port Glasgow, Scotland. She emigrated to the U.S. at 4 years of age with her family and cried when she observed cargo being removed by nets to the dock from her ship, fearing that was how she was going to be unloaded.

Her parents settled in the Dearborn Heights area and Jean went on to obtain her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from the University of Michigan. She became a teacher initially at the University of Michigan’s Neuropsychiatric Hospital, where she taught inpatient adolescents. Jean subsequently was hired as a special education teacher and a counselor by the Ypsilanti Public Schools, where she worked with generations of students at the East and West Middle Schools.

She is survived by her life partner of 43 years, George Jabol, her brother James Burns and by her nephews Keith and Brian Burns. Jean and George enjoyed may years of domestic and international travel together and were fond owners of 7 amazing cats (Tiz, Tizzie, Tunky, Shadow, Katrinka, BC and Peanut). Jean will be remembered for her intelligence, for her excellent practical skills including cooking, sewing and house wiring and for her fairness and compassion.

She had the gentle ability to love without hurting and the grace and wisdom to place the needs of others often ahead of her own. A gathering of friends and family will take place on Sunday, October 28, 2018 from 1:00 P.M. until 9:00 P.M. at the home of George and Jean, 9186 Whispering Pines Dr., Saline, MI 48176.
