Obituary for Jerald Winn Peterson Jerald “Jerry” Winn Peterson was born in Logan, Utah on June 21, 1944 to Winn and Ruth “Lavon” Peterson. He died on April 10, 2018 after a long battle with melanoma at the age of 73 at home with family in Smithfield, Utah. Jerry was the only son of 5 siblings – Shana Bodily, Kayleen Sanchez , David John and Rosemary Anderson.
Jerry was preceded in death by his parents and brother David John. Jerry served an L.D.S. Mission in the Southern States Mission and Southern California Mission. He attended Utah State University and graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Agronomy with a Minor in Biology and Botany.
He was married to Ruthann Fuller in the Salt Lake L.D.S. Temple. He was the proud father of Jerald Winn Jr., Kellie Danette, Tracy Diane, David James, Alesha Ann, Kara Kayleen, Andrew Michael, Jessica Ruth and Lindsey Qiong. He was also the proud grand/great-grand father of 36 living grandchildren.
Later, he later met and married “Donna” Qin Dong Qiong in China with whom he had one child Lindsey. His hobbies and interests were spending time with family and friends, studying the gospel, gardening, traveling, vacationing in his motorhome, studying world history, current events and politics. Jerry worked for the Howard-Maclean Seed Company in Scottsbluff, Nebraska for several years and then worked for J.R. Simplot Company for over two decades as an Agronomist and later as a consultant for the Simplot International/Simplot Beijing, Pepsico, McCain Foods, Jinyuan Agriculture where he worked in Mexico, Dominican Republic, Bahamas, Barbados, Philippines, Poland, Taiwan, Korea, Australia and China.
Prior to Jerry’s arrival into China, potato farming was done by ox and wooden plow. Jerry was the first person responsible for bringing mechanized potato equipment such as planters, diggers, pilers as well as the first sprinkler irrigations systems to China. We want to thank the family members, friends and many medical professionals who helped care for Jerry.
A big thanks to Intermountain Healthcare System and your hospital, oncology center and hospice care for their wonderful care and kindness. Mitzi, Anna, Wendy, Cameron are just a few of those who provided such personalized, genuine love and service to Jerry. In addition to immediate family who helped care for him, we would also like to provide thank Aunt Rosemary and Uncle Dennis for being there or available 24/7.
Jerry worked for the Howard-Maclean Seed Company in Scottsbluff, Nebraska for several years and then worked for J.R. Funeral Services will be held at 12:30 pm, Saturday, April 21 2018 in the L.D.S. Smithfield Ward Building, 345 East 300 South, Smithfield, UT 83445. A viewing will be held prior to services from 11:00 a.m. to noon at the church.
