Mr. Jerry D Strickland, a resident of Ozark, died early Saturday morning, February 2, 2019 at Flowers Hospital in Dothan. He was seventy-one years of age. Funeral services will be 3:00 P.M. Wednesday, February 6, 2019 in Asbury United Methodist Church with Reverend Tara Chamblee and Reverend George Green officiating.

Interment will follow in the church cemetery, Holman Funeral Home and Cremations of Ozark directing. The family will receive friends in the church from 1:30 P.M. Wednesday until service time. Mr. Strickland was born March 18, 1947 in Dale county to the late Bessie Hughes Strickland and J. D. Strickland.

He served in the Army National Guard for twenty-two years and worked with Pea River Electric Cooperative for thirty-two years as a lineman until his retirement. Jerry was a reserve deputy with the Dale County Sheriffs Department, an umpire with the city church league, and a member and deacon at Southside Baptist Church. He loved Gospel music and was a member of The Dale Tones, The Countrymen and Cedar Creek Gospel Band.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his nephew, Bradley Strickland and his step-grandson, Terry Rogers, Jr. Survivors include his wife of fourteen years, Gloria Whitaker Strickland of Ozark; four daughters, Dedra (Charlotte) Garrey of Dothan, Regina Rose of Dothan, Tiffany Melanson of Ozark, and Kelley Peak of Ozark; Gloria’s children, Robert Mayzum of Cummings, Georgia, Lisa (Harmon) Mayzum of Ariton, Gina (Charles) Mayzum of Ariton; one brother and sister-in-law Lanier (Paula) Strickland of Ozark; two grandchildren, Colby Rowell and Matthew Rowell of Dothan; one step-grandson, Anthony Merry of Nashville, Tennessee; one niece, Erin Strickland of Ozark.
