Jerry Earl Hughes, “Shorty”, age 67, of Surgoinsville, TN, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Monday, April 29, 2019, surrounded by his beloved family. He was a lifelong member of First Freewill Baptist Church where he lead Choir for many years. He enjoyed playing guitar and singing, gardening, fishing and being a friend to everyone he met.

Jerry was employed with Eastman Chemical Company for 27 years. He was proudest of being a loving husband, father and father-in-law. He will be loved forever and never forgotten.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Carl J. Hughes and Thelma O. Hughes; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Hubert and Loretta Merritt. Jerry is survived by his loving wife, Patricia Hughes; daughter and son-in-law, Ophelia and Joshua Edmonson; brother, James Hughes and wife Vickie, sister, Geraldine Armstrong and husband Orville; several sisters-in-law; nieces and nephews and a host of friends. The family will receive friends on Friday, May 3, 2019, from 6:00 pm till 8:00 pm at Christian-Sells Funeral Home in Rogersville.

The funeral ceremony will follow at 8:00 pm with Rev. Jesse Hartgrove officiating. The graveside service will be held on Saturday at 11:00 am at Hawkins County Memorial Gardens.
