Obituary for Jerry Ford Jerry Ray Ford passed away November 1 at his home in Amory, Mississippi, after a bout with cancer and joined God in heaven at the age of 80. Jerry was born on October 18, 1938, in Fulton, Mississippi. He later lived in Amory and left after high school graduation to join the U.S. Navy, where he served his country for a combined 13 years, taking him to Virginia, California and Louisiana.

It was in the military that he learned to work on airplanes, which is what he did after leaving the service. He was employed as a mechanic by Delta Air Lines and Continental Airlines at various times during his life. HIs friendships at work opened the door to pursuing other interests.

Jerry had a brief stint as a concert promoter with his friend, Cecil Colony, which came from a love of music. Their only show was a concert by Sonny James in the 1980s in suburban New Orleans. Another interest that grew into a passion later in life was investing in the stock market.

Jerry was always researching companies to see which one would be a worthwhile investment. He also had an interest in politics, which led to him volunteering with Jimmy Carter’s presidential campaign in California in 1976. His biggest priority, however, was his family.

He married his wife, Carolyn, and they remained together for 57 years until his death. They had four sons. Jerry is survived in part by his wife; his son, Craig (Stephanie); and his brother, Pat Burnette.

He was preceded in death in part by his sons: Alan, Christopher and David; and his mother, Hermine Burnette. Jerry will be laid to rest in New Hope Cemetery near Smithville. His family wants to thank everyone who helped during his final days.
