OBITUARY Jerry W Florence August 10, 1937 – December 23, 2018 Jerry Florence, 81, passed away at home on Sunday, December 23, 2018. He was born in Portland, IN on August 10, 1937. He lived on Water St. somewhere near the O Cedar broom factory and the Jay County Jail.

He then lived as a militant nonconformist (in the most glorious way) for 43 years at the Fort Wayne State Developmental Center. He has early memories of participating in farming the land there and stealing radishes out of the garden. He has spent nearly the last 19 years living with his loving caretaker, filling her life with love, laughter, a fair amount of frustration, and most recently, many tears.

He will be remembered for his true love of animals, his flair for the dramatic, the creative ways in which he most always won battles, and his mighty and quick wit. He was preceded in death by his father, George Florence, his mother, Freda Goslee Florence, his brother Jack, and his honorary sister, Flora Oldham. He is leaving behind a gaggle of “family”, friends, and pets, most importantly his bff, Foxy.

We will honor Jerry on Saturday, January 19, 2019 at 12:00 PM at Greenlawn Funeral Home, 6750 Covington Road, Fort Wayne, IN 46804 with visitation ½ hour prior to the service. Preferred memorials may be made to Fort Wayne Animal Care and Control or Allen County SPCA. Visit www.
