Ms. Jessie Hammonds Hunt 89, of Lumberton, was born in Robeson County on December 2, 1929 to the late Frank and Annie Smith Hammonds. She is preceded in death by her husband, John A. Hunt; a son, Johnny C. Hunt; four brothers, Walter Hammonds, Clarence Hammonds, Rudolph Hammonds and Redell Hammonds; seven sisters, Lula Mae Hunt, Lorraine Lovering, Margaret Hunt, Girlene Bainbridge, Annie Mae Hammonds, Esterlene Lowery, and Linda Hammonds. Ms. Jessie worked at Gerber Baby Manufactory for many years, from where she retired.

She was a servant of God at her church. She once held the position as a Sunday School Teacher, VBS Director, WMU Director, she also worked in the senior citizens sausage group where they made homemade sausage. Sister Jessie was also a member of the First Nation Boys and Girls Club Senior Citizens Quilting Club.

She was a devoted mother, grandmother to her children and grandchildren, she loved her family very dearly. Ms. Jessie is survived by four sons; Terry Hunt (wife Rita), Stevie Hunt (wife Beth), Franke Hunt and Rev. Rodney Hunt (wife Ashlea); three daughters; Wanda Locklear (husband Johnny), Betty Locklear, and Paula Jones all of Lumberton: one sister; Bonnie Fields of Rhode Island; eighteen grandchildren; twenty-three great grandchildren; three great- great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephew, relatives and friends.
