Jim Christopher, 87, of Canyon passed away on Thursday, May 16, 2019 in Ft. Worth. Graveside services will be at 10:00 A.M. on Tuesday, May 21, 2019 at Dreamland Cemetery.

Memorial services will be at 1:00 P.M. on Tuesday at University Church of Christ with Bob Shepard and Howard Morris officiating. The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. on Monday, May 20, 2019 at Brooks Chapel. Jim Christopher was born on July 18, 1931 in Wellman, Texas to Alvie Lee and Dorothy Jane Garrison Christopher.

He married Zona Lee Chesshir in Brownfield on January 26, 1953 and they moved to Canyon in 1956. Jim was a real estate broker and owned Christopher Real Estate in Canyon from 1961 to 2000. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving as a military police officer in Germany.

He was a longtime member of University Church of Christ, serving as Elder for 34 years and was always active in the Canyon community, serving as former City Commissioner. He was also greatly involved in the Canyon Fire Department, Rotary Club, and Canyon Chamber of Commerce, where he received the Lifetime Achievement Award in 2007 and Citizen of the Year in 2011. He also enjoyed coaching in Little League and always enjoyed fishing.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Glenda Cobb. Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Zona; two daughters, Jimma McMindes of North Richland Hills and Penny Coleman and husband Nick, of Louisville, KY; a son, Johnny Christopher and wife, Mitzi of Roaring Springs; eight grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; and one great, great grandchild. The family suggests memorials be to Church of Christ Bible Chair, % University Church of Christ, PO Box 427, Canyon, TX 79015, please note for Bible Chair.
