Obituary for Mr. Jim Mays Sr. Father, grandfather, entrepreneur, serviceman and Christian. Jim, as he was known amongst his friends was born to Katherine and Arvin Mays and was youngest of 10 children ( six boys and four girls) Jim met and married his true love Dot after a six week courtship on May 27, 1954. He was a father to four children Jennifer Baker (Jeff) John Mays (Debra) and Eddie Mays (Libby) and Wanda Mays.
He was grandfather to six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren He served his country and honorably discharged from the US ARMY after serving in the Korean War and being stationed throughout the US and Panama. In Panama he was honored with having the “best mess hall”. He opened the first State Farm agency in Arab; as well as starting and serving as president of the first Rotary club of Arab.
He was proprietor of a restaurant in Athens AL called Biggs. He loved to garden and he loved his church family at Lake City Assembly of God. Those who knew him, could describe him as a true Christian and Southern gentleman.
