86, of Narragansett, passed away on Friday, May 10, 2019 at Cedar Crest Nursing and Rehab, Cranston. She was the beloved wife of John E. Bezak. Born in East Greenwich, she was a daughter of the late Matthew and Mary (Prior) Leyden.

Joan was born and raised in East Greenwich. After her marriage to John, they soon relocated to Cumberland for almost 30 years, before settling in Narragansett. Joan was always very involved in her children’s lives, whether it was as den mother for the boy scouts, helping with the girl scouts, as well as the school PTA.

She was an avid golfer, with a very competitive spirit. She and her husband John had spent 20 winters traveling to their “home away from home” in Naples, FL where they made many fond memories. Besides her husband John, she is survived by her loving daughter Susan M. Taft and her husband Douglas of Woonsocket.

She was predeceased by her son John M. Bezak. Joan was the cherished “Mema” to Holly Bezak, Austin Taft, Emily Taft and Amanda Taft. She was the dear sister of Margaret Lundberg and the late Cathleen Pieraccini-Erba, Russell Leyden, John Leyden and Robert Leyden.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend her Mass of Christian Burial on Thursday, May 16th at 10:00 a.m. in St. Mary, Star of the Sea Church, 864 Point Judith Rd, Narragansett. Inurnment will follow in RI Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Exeter. Visiting hours and flowers are respectfully omitted.
