Obituary for Joan E. VanRyn Joan E. VanRyn Age 77, of Worthington, died peacefully on Saturday, April 29,2018, at Good Samaritan Hospice, Cabot, from the effects of cancer. Her firm belief in God supported her in her struggle and gave her peace. Born March 26, 1941 in Harrisburg, PA, to John and Betty (Atticks) Thomson, Joan’s love of all things equine lead her to become the owner/operator of Honey-Do Farms, Inc., a horse boarding facility.

It was there that she bred, raised and raced Thoroughbred horses and was able to “live her dream”. She sold the farm and retired in 2007. Since her retirement, Joan enjoyed kayaking, hiking, fishing and participating in Butler Outdoor Club activities.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Paul VanRyn; companion, Mark Pozzuto; father of her children, Frank C. Wise; and brother, Jack Thomson. Survivors include her daughter, Nadine (Dan Garmer) Wise of Worthington; her daughter, Joelle Wise of Asheville, NC; her son, Frank “Matthew” (Kim Weitzel) Wise of Butler; and grandchildren, Jonathan Wise, Samantha Wise, Delaney Garmer and Frank “Cody” Wise; as well as her cat, Boo. Per Joan’s wishes, services are to remain private.
