John Harriet (Heppelle) Kretschmar, 85, passed away peacefully in her sleep on April 21, 2018 at home. Born in Ware to the late Edmond and Bessie (Haynes) Heppelle, she was a lifelong Springfield resident. She worked as a computer lab technician at Springfield Technical Community College, retiring after many years of service.

John was an active and involved member of Foster Memorial Church in Springfield where she sang in the choir. She enjoyed singing and directing in the singing group, The Choraleers, at The Wellington at Springfield. Joan took great pride in her family and enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She leaves a son, Ronald Kretschmar and his wife Susan of Springfield; 3 grandchildren: Eric Kretschmar and his wife Nicole, Andrew Kretschmar and his wife Allison, and Christine Freiburger and her husband Brett; her great-grandchildren: Aidan and Ella Kretschmar, and one on the way; her sisters-in-law, Gail Kretschmar and Lynda Christiansen; her daughter-in-law, Betty Ayres; her former daughter-in-law, Lani Kretschmar and many nieces, nephews, other family members and friends. She was pre-deceased by her husband, Richard Kretschmar; her son, Richard Kretschmar, Jr.; a brother, George Hepelle, and a sister, Martha Learned. Services will be held on Thursday, April 26, 2018 at Foster Memorial Church, 1791 Wilbraham Road.

, Springfield with Visitation from 10:30-11:00 a.m. followed by a Funeral Service at 11:00 a.m. and proceeding to the MA Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery for a committal service at 1:00 p.m. Nowak Funeral & Cremation Services is entrusted with arrangements.
