Joan Mast, 89, a guest at St. Mary’s Villa Nursing Home formerly of Spring Brook Twp. , died on Wednesday, October 31, 2018 at the Villa. She was the widow of the late Donald “Ducky” Mast, Sr, who died on November 11, 2009 and the couple was married for 57 years when Donald passed.

Born in Scranton, Joan was the daughter of the late Joseph and Florence (Worthington) Mayock. Affectionately called the “Mohegan Momma”, she loved visiting the casino with her husband Donald, or her friends. Joan could often be found feeding animals in her yard, but she especially had a fondness for cats. She loved doing arts and crafts and could create the most elaborate and elegant Christmas trees.

Recently, she could be found singing throughout the halls of St. Mary’s Villa and everyone would look forward to hearing her as she traveled to her next destination. Most importantly, she was a loving mother and grandmother and looked forward to making memories with her family. Joan is survived by her children: Judith Payne and her husband, John of Whitehall, Susan Ferrett and her husband Dr. Edward of Moscow and Donald J. Mast, Jr. of Spring Brook Township; her brother: Richard Mayock and his wife Joyce of N.J.; her grandchildren: Lawrence Donald Stange, Stephen Stange and his wife Sarah, Daniel Ferrett and Gabrielle Ferrett; her furry feline friend, Lily & several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her siblings: Virginia Morarity, John Mayock, Mary Timoney and Ann Merkle. The family would like to offer a special thank you to the nurses and staff of St. Mary’s Villa for the wonderful care and the compassion shown to them and to Joan during her stay at the Villa. The Mass of Christian Burial and Interment with Rite of Committal will be private.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Activities fund at St. Mary’s Villa, 516 St. Mary’s Villa Road, Elmhurst Twp. Pa 18444. Arrangements are entrusted to Brian Arthur Strauch Funeral Homes & Cremation Services, LLC in Spring Brook Twp.
