Joan (Pietras) Novotney, 84, of Easthampton passed away peacefully at Cooley Dickinson Hospital, Northampton on December 31, 2018. She was born September 29, 1934 in Easthampton, the daughter of the late John and Bessie (Wnenta) Pietras. She attended local schools and graduated from Easthampton High School Class of 1952.

She was a lifelong resident of Easthampton. Joan was employed as an Administrative Assistant at the former Stanley Home Products of Easthampton for over 30 years. She retired in 1996.

She was a life time communicant of Our Lady of the Valley Parish (formerly Sacred Heart Church) and a member of the Holy Rosary Sodality. Joan is survived by her daughter Joanille Kmiecik and husband Ted of West Springfield, her son Peter Novotney and wife Deb of Longmeadow, two granddaughters Lily and Brexley Novotney, a niece Patty Menard and many family and friends, including Joan’s “angel” Zosia Orzol, who was her caregiver for the past three years. She was predeceased by her brother John Pietras.

Joan was a passionate and giving person and her family was her reason for living. She enjoyed traveling and vacationing with her family, playing cards with her Friday night girlfriends and was an avid sports fan, including a season ticket holder for UMASS basketball games. She also volunteered at the Cooley Dickinson coffee shop for many years.

A Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday, January 5, 2019 starting at 9:15am at Mitchell Funeral Home and then proceeding to the church for a 10 am Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of the Valley Church, 33 Adams Street followed by burial in St. Stanislaus Cemetery all in Easthampton. Visiting hours will be Friday, January 4th from 4pm to 7pm at Mitchell Funeral Home, 15 Park Street, Easthampton. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts in Joan’s memory may be given to the National Alzheimer’s Association (alz.org) or a charity of your choice.
