Joan Tkach May 25, 1929 – May 06, 2019 Share this obituary Send Flowers View/Sign Guest Book| Send Private Condolences| Send Sympathy Card Joan (Simora) Tkach, 89, of Edison, NJ, passed away on Monday, May 6, 2019 at Brighton Gardens of Edison. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend the Visitation at the Werson Funeral Home, 635 North Wood Avenue, Linden, on Friday, May 10th from 4-8 PM. The funeral begins on Saturday, May 11th at the funeral home at 9:00 AM.

The Funeral Mass is at Holy Family Church, Linden, at 10 AM. Interment follows at St. Gertrude Cemetery, Colonia, NJ. Joan was born in Puste Sady, Czechoslovakia, (now Slovakia), was raised in Risnovce, came to the U.S. in 1946 after WWII, lived in Astoria, New York, & moved to Edison, NJ in 1982.

Joan worked in sales, catering, & managed the family real estate for over 25 years. She was a communicant of St. John Vianney Church in Colonia, & a member of St. John Vianney Seniors Club, AARP #3459, & First Catholic Slovak Union – Jednota Branch 746. Joan provided & processed Graymoor Mass Cards for her neighbors for many years.

She also volunteered with costume preparations for the Limbora Slovak Folk Ensemble dancers. Joan enjoyed spending time with her family down the shore, in the Poconos, & traveling to many great places. She attended numerous cultural festivals & religious pilgrimages.

Joan was devoted to her family, was a kind hearted friend who had strong values, was a great inspiration, & always gave the best advice to all. Joan was predeceased by her beloved husband of 51 years, John Tkach, (2003), & her son, John Thomas Tkach, (1992). Surviving is her loving son, Jerry Tkach, and her daughter, Joanne M. Polt & her husband Eugene, & 2 cherished grandchildren, Brian Polt & his wife Meghan, and Kevin Polt.
